  • Overview

    The System Administrator provides Tier I - 3 support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of information Technology (IT) systems in Laurel, MD.


    Title of Position: System Administrator Level 3


    Description of Position:

    • Provide Tier III system administration support for CentOS operating systems.
    • Install, upgrade and configure Linux workstations.
    • Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network engineers.
    • Sets up administrator and service accounts, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.
    • Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation, and provides backup recovery.
    • Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
    • Must be able to communicate effectively with customers and work in a team environment.


    Clearance Requirement:

    • TS/SCI with Polygraph
    • No CCAs will be considered

    Education and Experience Required:

    • High School/GED plus nine (9) years experience OR Associates plus seven (7) years experience OR Bachelors plus five (5) years experience OR Masters plus three (3) years experience OR Doctorate plus one (1) year experience. Bachelor's or higher is preferred.
    • Must be well versed in Linux.
    • Must be able to provide Tiers 1-3 support.
    • Candidate must be able to support a system in a hybrid Linux and Windows environment.
    • One of the following DoD approved certifications is necessary to meet the category/level IAT-2 (DoD 8570) requirement for this position:  Security+, GSEC, SSCP, CCNA-Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), CASP, GCIH, or GCED.  NOTE: this certification requirement must be completed before an individual can join the task.
    • Must possess experience in one or mores systems and architectures and associated hardware: mainframe, mini, or client/server based.
