    Responsibilities

    Title of Position: Cybersecurity Specialist - Intermediate

      

    Description of Position:

    • Performs cybersecurity related tasks designed to safeguard the security of systems and information assets by protecting against unauthorized access, modification, or destruction.

    • Manages information systems security, including disaster recovery, database protection, and software development.

    • Performs technical support focused on the development, operation, management, and enforcement of security capabilities for systems and networks.

    • Analyzes information security systems and applications and recommends and develops effective security measures.

    • Identifies, reports, and resolves security violations.

    • Evaluates IT infrastructure in terms of risk to the organization and establishes controls to mitigate loss.

    • Determines and recommends improvements in current risk management controls and implementation of system changes or upgrades.

    • Works with end users to determine needs, implements policies or procedures, and tracks compliance through the organization.

    • Establishes, plans, and administers the overall policies, goals, and procedures for the information security function.

    • Implements network security policies and procedures, ensures network (LAN/WAN, telecommunications, and voice) security access, and protects against unauthorized access, modification, or destruction.

       

    • Must be familiar with a variety of systems administration concepts, practices, and procedures.

    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

    • Performs a variety of complicated tasks.

    • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

    • Works under general supervision.

    • Typically reports to a project leader, supervisor, or manager.

    • Must be adept at problem solving, identifying risk, and communicating results and recommendations to department management.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience Required:

    • This level is intended to coincide with DoD 8570.01M IAT/IAM/IASAE Level II. 
    • Requires at least five (5) years of experience in the area of specialization; a minimum of sixty (60) semester hours of formal education from an accredited institution working towards an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a directly related curriculum and at least four (4) years of experience; or an Associate’s degree with at least two (2) years of experience.
    • This labor category may include personnel who provide cybersecurity support of systems and applications where capabilities may be gained through extensive on-the-job experience, specialized formal Government training, or institutional training and certification. On-the-job experience must be in specific Cybersecurity support fields.
      Examples of Government or industry training include but are not limited to United States Federal or DoD school training and certification on a specific system, network, or technology.
    • Must possess experience with DoD’s defense in depth architecture; the capabilities associated with the DoD architecture; and Information Assurance (IA) / Computer Network Defense (CND) Policies and Procedures. This labor category requires specific training for the Information Assurance Technical (IAT), Information Assurance Management (IAM), CND Analyst, CND Auditor, and IA Systems Architects and Engineers (IASAEs).

    Clearance Requirement:

    • U.S. Citizenship and Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility required.
