Seeking a motivated candidate to provide engineering, sustainment, security, test, and deployment support capabilities


Title of Position: System Engineer Level 2


Description of Position:

Primary responsibilities include engineering support for configuration, deployment (loading of software), security hardening and troubleshooting deployed software and hardware on a variety of servers, switches, and blades: (Cisco switches, Dell and HP servers/blades, and myricom cards). 

Position requires resolution of connectivity issues between lab, live/dev and production system, system-to-system (application/interface), end-to-end thread dataflow. 

Specific knowledge and ability to trace and resolve issues with associated hosts, hosting platforms, mission software, and documenting identified resolutions are key support functions. 

Additionally, contractor will provide systems and network engineering support to configure, deploy and troubleshoot software, middleware and hardware platforms.

Additional responsibilites include:

Write/run shell scripts and ansible playbooks to support installation, configuration and maintenance of servers/systems in lab areas and provide support for deployed systems

Diagram planning to include rack/elevations

Write test plans/procedures

Review System Security Plans

Kick and deploy server applications

Configure applications to use the messaging infrastructure

Run messaging verification tests

Maintain system updates with the current deployment information

Support/monitor metrics pages to isolate issuesSupport monitoring of beacons for daily system troubleshooting

Note: Position includes limited after-hours call-in to support recover from unplanned outages


Education and Experience Required:

  • Skills to support and sustain current and future lab and live/dev and operational systems; ability to kick servers and provide software loading on deployed hardware (IBM, Dell, HP and other hardware and virtual platforms)
  • Ability to build (rack and stack), lab and live/dev systems (e.g. servers, blades, switch)
  • Experience with hardware/software, firmware, front-end systems and remote systems administration
  • Experience with server hardening review/scripts to support deployment
  • Experience with ssh, bash, Linux, and Redhat
  • Experience with network hardware, administration and configuration, routing requirements, mission hosting, IP spreadsheets and allocation
  • Experience with domain name service, Network Time Protocols, enterprise messaging, and file forwarding service
  • Ability to interface with external organizations for training requirements, converging data for multiple ticketing systems
  • Note: Experience – indicates ability to perform the above activities
